  • Alistair is enthusiastically drumming up support for the Single Wicket competition and does not recognise ‘no’ as a valid answer, though there is little doubt that Brenda means it. She is also sincere about expressing to Lilian what good news it is that Matt will be home this week, although Lilian herself seems strangely ambivalent.
  • As usual Ed is not overjoyed to receive a visit from Vicky; he does not waste the opportunity to express his view that, in view of the lack of customers for the veal, they should pull the plug. Vicky is not yet ready to give up; she suggests a compromise – no more new calves and she will make up any loss in selling the seven they already have.
  • By helping Tom, Brenda contrives to spend a bit of time with him, though she intends to spend the afternoon doing some research for work. She confesses that she has not done much cooking for the week ahead but Tom reckons they will survive.
  • Vicky’s next call is on Brenda, ostensibly to catch up on her new job: it’s mostly good though there is one guy who gets on her nerves. The real reason for her call is to arrange a meeting with Tom; although he is reluctant, Vicky is another who won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Tomorrow!
  • Matt calls Lilian to apologise for Friday: he admits he is an idiot and should not have pressured her about the business; he should also not have taken coming home to Lilian for granted. All is forgiven; they can have a fresh start.
