• Nigel, Shula, Caroline and Alice are off to their first team chase event, though Elizabeth is worried that Nigel will hurt himself. Hayley watches as they box Nigel’s horse, and thanks Elizabeth for offering them accommodation at Lower Loxley while Willow Farm is extended.
• Lilian tells Matt about anti-digester posters in the shop, but it’s clear he’s not listening. When Lilian finally pauses for breath, he tells her he’s had a call to say that his mother is willing to receive a letter from him. Lilian’s all for writing it there and then, but Matt says he needs space. Lilian decides to go and watch the Team Chase.
• Hayley calls on Emma with a difficult mission – to explain that because Will is coming to be Abbie’s God Father, they can’t invite Emma and Ed. Emma’s upset and somewhat shocked, but quickly says she understands, and that she counts her blessings now she’s got Ed and George.
• Nigel takes a tumble in the Team Chase, but isn’t hurt, and the team comes 23rd. Nigel isn’t bothered – they can only do better next time.
• When Lilian gets home, she wants to write Matt’s letter straight away, but Matt has a surprise in store. He’s going to drive to Walthamstow tomorrow and visit his mother. Lilian can come if she wants, and if not, he’ll go alone. She’s his mother, and it’s no-one’s business but his.
