  • Darrell is cracking on with the work on Joyce and Arthur’s home. They are pleased to have the kitchen sink back in operation – so grateful that Joyce has baked a cake especially; she isn’t making it easy for Darrell. It turns out that Joyce has had a spell in The Laurels when her first hip was done and remembers Elona. Their bathroom is next on Darrell’s list.
  • The midwife explains the amniocentesis and the risk involved – about 1% chance of a miscarriage. Vicky is finding it difficult to take such a risk; she is going to find it a whole lot more difficult to come to terms with a termination if the test result should indicate Downs Syndrome. Time is of the essence, too. Mike seems keen to go ahead with the test just to remove the uncertainty.
  • An emergency arises. Matt wants Darrell elsewhere to deal with it. But he can’t leave Joyce and Arthur with the bathroom and kitchen in a mess! Matt assures him that he can. Darrell completes the emergency repairs in double quick time but any thoughts of rushing back to the Walters’ are dashed by Matt presenting him with a list of other jobs – about two days’ worth. Don’t argue; just do it.
  • Vicky has had time to think. She has arranged the test – on Friday – but has she resolved the bigger question?
