Matt receives a final warning.

Radio Times: Fallon’s options are limited and Justin has had enough

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Lilian asks why Justin is in such a good mood. Eventually, she learns that he’s in seventh heaven about Matt’s failed meeting. She feels that Kate would have called it “karmic justice” or somesuch. Justin offers to do a little shopping while Lilian takes Peggy to the chiropodist. With that sorted, they both raise a glass of fruit juice. To Matt!
  • Fallon has her own moan about estate agent’s particulars not telling the whole story. Last week when they viewed a house, a rat ran past them in the garden. She mentioned that Christine may be thinking of selling Woodbine if they do decide to move. The sound of Susan’s ears pricking up could probably be heard on the green.
  • Susan finishes serving a rather grumpy Matt in the shop when he goes outside to take a call from Hugo. Clearly, he wasn’t overjoyed with yesterday’s turnout.
  • Lilian drops Christine off at the shop. Christine reckons that she’s sitting on a goldmine at home. Lilian drives off before Matt manages to buttonhole her. Hugo’s call wasn’t exactly matey. He sounded very disappointed. Still, Matt being Matt he puts a spin on the whole event and flatters Christine remorselessly. As Fallon leaves the shop to go back to work, Christine tells her that the agent’s been and very kindly offers her first refusal on Woodbine Cottage. Fallon gently points out that it would be way out of her price range.
  • Christine calls into the shop to buy some leaf tea for Peggy. She is hardly in the door when Susan demands the lowdown on her proposed sale, baldly asking what price had been suggested. Christine avoids mentioning a figure, saying instead that it was twice what she had in mind. Susan then sets about pointing out exactly what is wrong with the cottage, in particular, its history of flooding. Still, she wishes her well with the sale. Christine is left feeling and sounding very confused.
  • Matt spots Justin going into the shop and remarks on his talent for being an errand boy. Justin wonders if his ability to irritate others was innate or learned. Matt changes tack, accusing Justin of using his business contacts to spike attendance at the event at Grey Gables. Accusing Matt of being a sad and rather lonely soul, Justin cuts to the chase. Lilian has made her choice and no amount of spoiled Bridge Farm deals or unasked for puppies will change matters. Justin suggests that Matt should retire gracefully… or face the consequences.
