Matt seems to be coping with his first days in prison better than Lilian.

Radio Times: Lilian gets the inside story.

  • For Lilian the weekend is a long one, but she is finally rewarded by a phone call from Matt. He has little phone credit and there are others who want the phone, so he has to be brief. Lilian is beside herself in her desire to visit and bring him things but he vetoes all of this. He is still being assessed, then he will be moved; until then he does not want anything or a visitor. Of conditions in the prison she learns little more than the fact that he is sharing a cell.
  • The secret gardeners, though now revealed, are at it again – tidying the Memorial Garden, sadly too late for Remembrance Day. Both Lynda and Elizabeth are expecting to be too busy soon – Lynda with her new grandson and Elizabeth with Christmas events at Lower Loxley: an Antiques Fair in mid-December and some themed walks nearer to Christmas.
  • Jolene has been a good listener for Lilian in the past and it is to Jolene that she now turns. She comes clean about to which “one of the Costas” she and Matt went and, swearing Jolene to secrecy, give a blow by blow account of their time there. Jolene is pleasantly surprised to hear of Brian’s constructive role and impresses on Lilian the need to stay positive: Matt will need to see that. Lilian knows she has to snap out of it – somehow.
