  • Mike calls on Ed asking if he is all right; he has seemed preoccupied lately. Not wanting to engage in conversation, Ed assures Mike he is fine, but is forced to tell him about their leaving Rickyard Cottage. It soon becomes clear that Mike’s concern is less for Ed and more for his milk business.
  • Lilian tries to read the Borchester Echo, but Matt wants to talk to her. He suggests lunch at a new restaurant; Lilian has no wish to spend time with him, but is worn down by Matt’s insistence and finally agrees.
  • As Joe and Eddie make final preparations for the tree dressing they are interrupted by Mike who asks them for reassurance that Ed’s business is not in trouble. They close ranks and Eddie tells Mike very firmly that there is nothing to worry about.
  • Lilian enjoys her lunch, but is not convinced by Matt’s grovelling assurances that he values her, is diminished without her and that together they are unstoppable. Amside really needs her. Despite his stream of praise and reassurance, Lilian tells Matt she is not sure that she can trust him anymore.
  • Eddie and Joe rush to Grange Farm. Managing to send Joe off to look at the cows, Eddie tells Ed how proud he is of him. Grange Farm land has never looked so good, and not many people could have made a go of the business as Ed has.
