Oliver collects Ed and Clarrie goes to see him but Eddie won’t – Ed has to come home first.

Radio Times: Oliver’s prayers are answered.

Characters: Caroline, Clarrie, Ed, Eddie, Oliver

• Oliver is called from the hospital and he rushes into Borchester. Ed is still trying to get away but Oliver convinces him to go back to the farm. He’s clearly in a bad way. He’s been living rough but only back in Borchester for a few days.
• Oliver calls Clarrie. She finds it all hard to take in but she’s thrilled. She wants to go straight round but Eddie instantly takes it badly that he’s gone to Oliver and not home. Clarrie tries to convince him that Ed was just scared but Eddie is having none of it. Clarrie thinks it shouldn’t matter – he’s their son. But Eddie won’t move. So Clarrie goes off on her own in her nightdress and slippers – nothing would stop her from seeing him. Oliver and Caroline try to prepare her for the shock. But she is just thrilled to see him – even though he’s half asleep. He’s home and he’s safe and that is all that matters.
• Oliver is not sure he’s done the right thing in calling Clarrie but Caroline says that they know he’s safe now – where they go from here is up to them.
