Pat and Tom see things differently. Lilian sees an opportunity for a weekend away.

Radio Times: Pat makes her feelings known and there is a stroke of luck for Lilian.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Tom enjoys a huge lunch made from Sunday’s Bridge Farm leftovers, though Tom is well aware that his parents have something they want to discuss with him.
  • At the Dower House, Lilian enjoys a more frugal lunch in the form of a tin of soup, and finds increasing difficulty in parrying Matt’s questions about her weekend with Judith. Her lies almost trip her up when it comes to mentioning a French restaurant.
  • Tom’s suspicions are proved right when Tony tells him that he has decided morning milking will be too much for him. Pat clumsily dispatches Tony to fetch ice-cream while she has a go at her selfish son, whose annoyance is clear. Tom plays the John card, saying how much he would want John to be proud of what he has achieved now that he is on the cusp of major business expansion, but having no time to work on the farm. When Tony returns to an awkward silence, he suggests that he might do some afternoon milking if Trevor would do the morning shift. Pat is not convinced.
  • Paul rings Lilian, who is rescued by Matt’s rushing off to look at a property. She lies yet again, saying it is Judith ringing to see if she got home safely. When she rings Paul back, he wants them to have a weekend in London together – starting on Friday. Lilian realises she is running out of excuses where Matt is concerned, but is rescued, as is the way in Ambridge, by a call from James. He has a hospital appointment on Friday, and Leonie’s mean employers have refused her yet more time off. Could Lilian possibly take him? Could this be the answer to her current problem?
