Pat and Tony have to face a change. Roy comes to Lexi’s rescue
Radio Times: Johnny wants to spread his wings
Characters: Jennifer, Johnny, Lexi, Pat, Roy, Tony- As Jennifer and Lexi clean the caravans, Lexi becomes increasingly annoyed by Jennifer’s condescension and, at times, downright rudeness. Jennifer comments that ‘you lot’ must be quite overwhelmed by the standard of living in Ambridge. Roy appears, ostensibly to return Phoebe’s work-wear, but actually to pick Lexi up for the cinema. Blithely, Jennifer enquires whether they know each other.
- A delighted Johnny can’t wait to tell Pat and Tony that Adam has taken him on. Unfortunately Tony fails to share Johnny’s delight, and Pat, too, points out the difficulties it will present. Johnny stands his ground; his college tutor has confirmed that his apprenticeship can be sub-contracted. Recognising defeat, Pat and Tony valiantly try to put a brave face on it while Johnny goes to tell Adam he can start on Monday.
- Roy manages to divert Jennifer’s conversation to Budapest. She falls for it completely, gushing about the tourist sites, giving Lexi the opportunity to talk about the ‘real’ Budapest, which will be a lot cheaper for Phoebe. Roy then turns the conversation to money, graciously accepting Jennifer’s offer of ‘a little help’ for Phoebe. At last he and Lexi escape for their date, but before that comes a kiss.
- As Johnny phones Adam, Pat and Tony muse on the past and the need for young people to follow their dreams. Will he ever come back? asks Tony sadly.
