Peggy gives motherly advice. Adam gives brotherly advice.
Radio Times: Lilian turns over a new leaf.
Characters: Adam, Alice, Brenda, Lilian, Peggy, Roy- Lilian meets Peggy in the shop, and asks if anything is wrong with Jennifer. Peggy becomes flustered, makes excuses and rushes off. While Lilian waits for Susan to serve her, Brenda appears, with a delivery of sausages, and is treated to Lilian’s own brand of patronising, bitchiness, insinuation and some attempt to be pleasant.
- At Home Farm, Alice is refusing to leave her room or to eat. Jennifer is distraught, and when Peggy calls round, she dissolves in tears. Alice storms off for a ride, but Adam says he’ll follow and try to talk to her.
- Brenda tells her brother about Lilian, and her fears that Lilian might become their step-mother. At first Roy tries to make light of it, but then he agrees with Brenda; something has to be done to prevent such a thing.
- At first Alice is too hurt and angry to listen to Adam. She feels such a fool, and the thought that Brian loves Ruairidh more than her is very painful. She can’t bear the thought of the little boy living at Home Farm. Adam does his best to present a balanced picture, and tells Alice that she’ll always be his, Kate’s and Debbie’s little sister, and they will always look after her.
- A rather calmer Jennifer apologises to Peggy for her outburst. Peggy tells her she had no choice but to act as she did, and that Alice is just in shock. All Jennifer can do is to do her best now, and take one day at a time.
