Peggy visits day centres with an uncharacteristically sober Lilian.

Radio Times: Lilian stays on the straight and narrow.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Lilian is finding the morning rather bright. Matt has got her lots of sponsorship but delights in reminding her that there are 40 (that’s forty!) days of abstinence ahead. Peggy arrives early for their visit to day centres.
  • Nigel is not popular – again: he is mending his puncture in the kitchen because Titcombe has barred him from the workshop. He is keen to buy bikes for the twins but Elizabeth does her best to hold off this step. And he has another idea, which makes Lizzie’s heart sink, and will discuss it after lunch.
  • The second day centre is more to Peggy’s liking and she will probably apply for a place. Once outside they meet Tom, fresh from his driving course and getting a cool reception from his Gran. Lilian invites him to join them for lunch.
  • Nigel’s idea is that the fence they see from the house spoils the view and his answer is to restore the ha-ha. Titcombe can do it with a bit of help from a local contractor to dig out the ditch – Eddie perhaps. Lizzie agrees if the cost can be kept down.
  • Matt is amazed that Lilian resisted a pub lunch and has a scathing comment about Tom, evoking a defensive riposte this time from Peggy. Matt, ever the generous host and despite his partner’s obvious discomfort, offers Peggy a drink. The ladies will have tea and he can keep his hospitality.
