Pip prepares for her interview; Kenton sinks further into a morass of self-pity.
Radio Times: Rob does Pip a favour, and Kenton is feeling low.
Characters: Carol, Jolene, Kenton, Peggy, Pip, Rob- Carol shows Peggy the wigwams made by Bert. He has enjoyed keeping busy in Carol’s garden since Freda’s death. He has decided to hold fire on Freda’s memorial rose until The Bull becomes straighter after the flood. They discuss Kenton and Jolene’s parlous financial state. Peggy comments about Lilian working under pressure on her own at Amside. The appearance of the Fairbrother boys in Ambridge provides an opportunity for them both to reminisce in the warm sunshine. It’s all another world away.
- Rob shows Pip round the dairy unit at Berrow Farm. It’s a useful opportunity for her to get first-hand experience of the operation prior to her impending interview with Webster Agri-International for the post of Technical Manager. He points out that the biggest animal health risk to the operation is … the staff, carelessly spreading contamination. Pip seizes on this snippet as possible interview fodder.
- Jolene and Kenton are behind the bar in a virtually deserted Bull. Kenton has had to let Callum go because of the state of the business. He has even had to disappoint his daughter on her birthday; the gift of a few dollars bears no comparison to what he had previously promised her. He feels totally responsible for the ills of the world.
- Later Carol drops in to The Bull. She discusses Lilian’s new hairstyle with Jolene. Perhaps it will soften in a few days! As she goes to wait for Hillary Noakes, Kenton arrives to find the bar generating almost no trade. Still, at least he’s managed to get a month’s extended credit from their bar suppliers. It’s a reprieve of sorts, but still he’s depressed and fed up with juggling debt. The fact that Jolene tells him that David had phoned does nothing to lift his spirits. He decides not to return the call. Perhaps not a wise move!
