  • Will visits the Snells to get an update on Monday’s bird spotting competition with Jim. Mike Tucker won’t be able to take part however as he now has a completion date of the end of the month for his house sale and spare time will become very precious for him.
  • David and Jim discuss Jim’s birding team. David is surprised to find that Kenton has agreed to take part as the team’s driver. In Kenton’s honour, Jim’s team will be called The Bull Birders.
  • Lynda, still planning with Robert and Will, is very concerned about the number and timing of “comfort breaks” during the event. Robert’s insistence on sharp timing for the whole event, with no more than five minutes being spent on each stop doesn’t appeal to her. Their team will be called The Ambridge Aviators!
  • Talk between David and Jim turns to Springhurst and Butler, the consultants Jim has chosen to commission to carry out the flood report. They aren’t cheap, but Jennifer is still generously offering to pay the fee. In the same vein, Jim admits to offering to pay for Kenton’s car expenses for the upcoming competition.
  • Jim and Robert meet in the shop. Jim tries to get an idea of Robert’s chosen route, with little success. They agree to a common start point on the village green. Jim casts doubt on Robert’s ability to accurately identify his list of birds. Angrily, Robert announces that at least he is going to try to photograph his birds for the record. So there!
  • Rex meets Ed and tells him that the Estate wants almost twice the amount per acre that Ed is currently paying so with regret, the deal is off. Talk turns to how Rex and Toby work together. Even in the tough times, years ago, they supported each other and managed to get by. That’s what brothers do, they stick together, says Rex. Something for Ed to ponder perhaps?
