Radio Times: Lynda eyes up the competition, and Pat has a question for Susan.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Rex comes over to walk with Pip and the cows since ‘it is such a nice morning’. They talk and rejoice over the road decision. Pip is determined to be upbeat when Matthew is mentioned; she is fine and doesn’t even know how she would have had time for a long distance relationship. The goslings are also coming soon, aren’t they? It is clear that Rex is trying to ask Pip to go out with him but she rattles on about technical details that she will be learning at a conference in Gloucestershire. Not a man to be discouraged, Rex asks if he can come along. Pip is surprised but says if he really wants to, it would be great to have a mate along. Was there a hint of disappointment in Rex’s reply to Pip’s use of ‘mate’?
  • Lynda talks to Susan as she shops. She reminds Susan that her open garden will be a fund raiser. She was going to donate all proceeds to the Save Fund but happily that cause has a happy ending. The charity to benefit from the open garden must be Ambridge focused. Unknowingly, Pip comes into this discussion and Lynda draws her in although Pip tries to escape. Lynda is outraged that Bert has a website for his opening; she accuses Bert of pirating stock photos. Susan doesn’t understand why Lynda is so upset since Robert could have set up a website for her.
  • Toby is once again taken to task for promising large numbers of eggs that simply can’t be supplied. Josh agrees with Rex on this one; Toby must go back and explain that they can’t possibly supply these numbers. Perhaps in the future, Rex notes. Toby simply wants to buy more hens but Rex is worried about the cash flow.
  • Pat shows Susan pictures of baby Jack. Susan is outraged that Rob is applying for custody; not a baby at such young age. Pat wants to talk to Susan about staffing the shop. Kirsty suggested rehiring Anya who worked there before and Anya has accepted the offer. That sounds nice, Susan comments, but what has that to do with Susan? Pat asks Susan to take on a few shifts until Anya is able to start. Susan misunderstands and believes that Pat is asking Susan to apply her ‘retail expertise’ to turn around a sinking ship. It would be like an expert head teacher brought in to save a failing school, enthuses Susan. Pat agrees uncertainly.
  • Toby reacts badly and pouts a bit. Once Rex has left, Toby tries to emotionally blackmail Josh to change his vote. Toby thought Josh was like him, a buccaneer on the high seas of enterprise, rather than a plodder like Rex. Toby announces he doesn’t care what Rex and Josh say, he won’t turn down his client. Josh interjects that is good; he might have an idea.
