Rob makes a decision about a job. Kathy makes a decision about unwelcome guests. Clarrie makes a decision about Joe’s welfare.
Radio Times: Kathy has to put business first, while Rob has a lovely surprise.
Characters: Clarrie, Eddie, Helen, Kathy, Pat, Rob- Rob wakes Helen with a cup of tea and orders to stay in bed. She is to take the whole day off. Helen protests that she feels much better but Rob is adamant, so Helen gives in after reminding him that he has an interview at 12.
- After much searching, Eddie thinks he may have found them somewhere to live – until Clarrie points out that it’s a flat share and three of them can’t live in one room. Kathy appears, asking for a word, and Eddie makes himself scarce. In some embarrassment, Kathy tells Clarrie that a guest has made a complaint after seeing Joe in the bar in his long johns and dressing gown, yet again. She has much sympathy for their predicament, but as manager she has to tell them to go.
- Pat is again utterly charmed by Rob’s solicitude for Helen, and says she will call at Blossom Hill at lunchtime. Rob seems less than enthusiastic. He reminds Pat that he has an interview so goes to change. Pat thinks they would be fools to turn him down. Then a perplexed Helen rings; she has had a letter calling her for a scan even though she is not yet due for one. Smarmy Rob has paid for a private scan because he can’t wait to know the sex of the baby.
- Clarrie tells Eddie about Kathy’s visit but fails to make him see how desperate their situation is. They simply have to find somewhere for Joe to go. Eddie is adamant; his father is not going into a home. He will find them somewhere – but Clarrie is not convinced.
- Rob returns home but seems reluctant to tell Helen how the interview went. Eventually he admits that he told them he did not want to pursue it further, despite the attractive package. Helen, Henry and the baby – plus the shop – fill his life and he has no intention of looking for other work.
- Clarrie rings the local authority who will carry out an assessment and find Joe somewhere to live even if only temporarily. Eddie accepts the news reluctantly, but asks who is going to break the news to Joe.
