  • It’s Rob’s first day at his new job. Justin drops in to officially welcome him and see how things are shaping up. Rob claims to be getting on top of the administrative side of the operation before turning his attentions to matters arable. Justin agrees his plan. Rod decides to start his afternoon with an unannounced visit to Adam at Home Farm.
  • Pip finds Toby in his dressing gown, musing over a text that Alice has sent to him and Rex; “The goose’s head has been found”. However, as he’s been fired, he couldn’t care less about what Rex thinks, let him stew! He may not speak to him ever again! Pip is concerned, but he flounces off to get dressed and visit Alice.
  • Rob’s visit to Adam is totally unwelcome. After enquiring about Adam’s wheat he asks how things are with Adam, at home. Having made his snide point, Rob then mentions some rather serious concerns he has about the Autumn-sown crops, and insists on going down and looking at them, there and then. If Adam can spare the time, that is.
  • Pip calls in to see Rex on the pretext of being concerned about the geese but with the ulterior motive of trying to pour oil on troubled waters. Rex stands by his decision to sack Toby but nevertheless, Pip invites him to the Halloween festivities at The Bull later in the evening. She’s interrupted by a call from Toby. Rex excuses himself. Toby insists that she comes home to see something amazing.
  • Rob loses no time in telling Adam that he’s unhappy with the progress of the no-till crops. Other crops in the area are much further on. Adam tries to explain that the system is in the early stages of the trial and it’s much too early to take a long-term view. Rob is having none of it, threatening to inform Justin of the poor state of play. He also tells Adam to expect another visit from him if things don’t improve … soon.
  • At The Bull, Rex is morose. Rob turns up as “The Joker” much to Kenton’s disgust. How tactless can you get? Rob’s taken away by a call from Justin, inviting him to next week’s shoot. He’s beside himself and accepts … of course. Just then, Pip (the Black Widow) and Toby (a goose) arrive. Rex isn’t impressed, reiterating that his brother is fired. He makes to leave. Despite Pip’s valiant efforts to persuade him to stay, he explains that he can’t remain in the same building as his brother, and slopes off into the darkness.
