Roy and Hayley get mixed news. Adam is hurt by Brian’s attitude.
Radio Times: Hayley faces another obstacle.
Characters: Adam, Clarrie, Hayley, Jennifer, Phoebe, Roy- Before she takes Phoebe to buy a dress for the wedding and to see Father Christmas, Jennifer stops to chat to Adam. He’s hurt that Brian won’t be at the wedding, and wishes Jennifer had told him earlier. Jennifer promises to keep plugging away, and reminds him that Kate and Debbie will both be there. But what about Peggy, asks Adam; there’s been an eerie silence from that direction. Jennifer makes unconvincing noises about having Jack to look after. Adam realises that he and Ian have to face a lot of prejudice from their respective families.
- Roy and Hayley go to the doctors to get the results of their tests. To their embarrassment, they meet Clarrie in the waiting room, but she’s so full of Paris that she doesn’t pick up on their awkwardness. The doctor tells them their tests were fine – nothing is wrong. Hayley can’t understand why she isn’t pregnant in that case. The doctor tries to reassure her, but Hayley asks about IVF. Then comes the blow; they aren’t eligible for funding because they have Phoebe, and to go private would cost £3000.
- Clarrie meets Jennifer and Phoebe, and manages to put her foot in it, firstly over Phoebe’s dress and then calling Jennifer the Bride’s mother. Jennifer manages some smooth one-upmanship, though, telling Clarrie about the smart little boutiques she shops at in Paris.
- On the way home, Roy gets a text from Kate. She wants to see Phoebe when she comes for the wedding. Hayley says it’s fine, but is clearly on edge. She says she’s tired and wants to go home.
