Roy and Lexi confirm their feelings for each other, Noluthando and Kate argue but Alice’s drinking causes trouble for Pip.
Radio Times: Alice is determined to have a good time and Roy needs to talk
Characters: Alice, Kate, Lexi, Noluthando, Pip, Roy- Kate wants to share Noluthando’s eye shadow and accompany her to the New Year’s Eve party at The Bull where Freddie is DJ. Noluthando warns her not to be an embarrassment but Kate wonders how she could possibly embarrass anyone.
- Roy surprises Lexi but complains about the traffic making him late. They become a bit lovey and Roy announces he has a special gift for Lexi but he can’t find it. Lexi says they are late and must go into work. The present will have to wait.
- At the party, Kate tries to talk Noluthando out of having a house party for her 17th birthday; they can do something more imaginative. Noluthando is very irritated and objects to Kate’s interference. Kate wants Noluthando to dance with her and when she refuses, Kate dances with Noluthando’s young friends, much to Noluthando’s chagrin. When Alice discovers that Pip isn’t drinking, Alice tries to force her to have a drink. Pip must be forceful in her determination to drink only tonic water.
- Kate wants Noluthando to have a vegan barbecue with camping for her birthday, just like Kate’s party. Noluthando flounces out and hides in the toilet from Kate who follows her in. Noluthando tries to explain to her mother that she wants a normal party with a normal mother. Kate retorts that she grew up with a straight-laced mother and it is stifling to creativity. Noluthando loses patience and tells Kate that she is deluded and self-obsessed and Kate doesn’t have the slightest idea of who Noluthando is.
- Roy tries to tell Lexi what she means to him but Lexi is concentrating only on working. Roy finally arranges a quiet moment with Lexi and gives her a lovely pendant on a chain. This way they will always be reminded of each other no matter how far apart they are. Lexi tells Roy they will make it work somehow. There are flights and Skype. They kiss at the stroke of midnight and declare they are looking forward to what the new year brings.
- Alice forces Pip to have a drink that she claims is non-alcoholic but Kate takes a sip and notes that it definitely has vodka in it. Pip is very angry with Alice who seems a bit too far gone to notice. Alice tells Pip that tricking her into drinking alcohol was just a stupid joke; Pip is making too much of it. Alice tries to apologise but soon guesses Pip is pregnant. Pip angrily tells Alice that it is private business and she is to stay out of it.
