Ruth and David congratulate themselves. Susan upsets Pat. Pip takes Toby somewhere quiet.
Radio Times: Susan stands her ground, and at Brookfield things seem to be looking up.
Characters: David, Pat, Pip, Ruth, Susan, Toby- It’s time for smugness at Brookfield; the harvest has gone well and the butterfat in the milk is almost where it should be. This fails to prevent Pip from reminding her father to check the grass with the plate meter next time, however.
- Susan manages to put her foot well and truly in it with Pat. After asking nosily how the meeting with the solicitor went – and receiving a somewhat frosty response – Susan comments on the fact that she saw Henry playing cricket with Rob. She could not possibly comment on the use of a hard ball; Pat would have to ask Emma about that. Susan then reveals that Emma is being paid to look after Henry, and Pat erupts in fury. Susan bravely defends Emma when Pat accuses her of disloyalty, telling Pat she should be grateful rather than accuse Emma.
- Toby is relieved that egg production is almost back to normal, but admits that he made a big mistake and is sorry for it. Pip suggests going out somewhere. A walk to somewhere quiet, perhaps? Toby cheers up at once, but refuses to answer when Rex phones.
- Still revelling in their good fortune, David and Ruth take a walk up Lakey Hill. The view reminds Ruth of how lucky they are. Despite being cross with Josh, David agrees that all three children are responsible when it comes to livestock. More smugness is evident as David muses that they are not in a bad place now. Not until you discover what your daughter is up to, David.
