Radio Times: Elizabeth is called to the Dark Side.

  • Jim continues to bait Shula as she washes the kitchen floor and tells him that Caroline is coming for lunch. As Shula goes to take the casserole from the freezer, Jim begins to explain about the stuffing. That’s bad enough, but when he admits to giving the casserole to Joe, Shula is beyond words.
  • As Ruth’s operation draws nearer, she’s anxious to get the rotas sorted out. David can’t see why they need to do it now, and is more interested in Pip’s attire for the Young Farmers’ disco.
  • When Jim refers to Joe as a friend, Shula really loses her cool. She goes off to the shop in search of lunch items, and meets Ruth, who offers a listening ear. Shula feels isolated; even Alan has become friends with Jim.
  • The post brings a shock for Lizzie – a letter summoning her to appear for the defence in Owen’s trial. She knows she must tell Kathy, but how can she? How will Kathy react? Nigel offers soothing words and a cup of tea, but Lizzie knows she must bite the bullet.
  • David shares Ruth’s enjoyment of the casserole saga, but is somewhat taken aback when he finds that Ruth has invited Shula, Alistair, Daniel and Jim for Christmas Day. It’s fine, says Ruth airily – mum will do the cooking.
