Shula feels isolated
Radio Times: Shula feels isolated
Characters: Alistair, Bert, Roy, Ruth, Shula, Usha- Roy’s meeting Usha to go over Kate’s statement about him and, as expected, they’ve pulled no punches, mentioning his part in the racist attacks, his violent contretemps with Gibson amongst many others. Usha’s happy to point out that her role in his defence and Gibson’s drug dealing nullify that and is keen to stress that he’s only there to prove himself as likely to be a good father, not to get embroiled in a custody battle. He also points out that all this muck-raking might not matter if the results don’t go his way.
- The statement has shaken Usha up more than she let on to Roy. She tells Ruth that she knew the attacks would be raked over, but it’s also ironic that it was around then that Richard convinced her to stay in the village – and won her over.
- Shula’s finally managed to speak to Alistair and pays him a visit. She tells him that while Richard is leaving she’s staying and wants to be with him. Needless to say he’s not particularly thrilled at this, informing her in no uncertain terms that he’s not so keen on being someone’s consolation prize and the hurt she caused him isn’t so easily swept away. His trust in her is completely shot and he’s not so sure that she’s not staying in the village for herself and his presence is just convenient. He asks her to leave his house.
