  • Pat has decided to enter the necklace Helen ‘made’ in the Flower and Produce show, and swears Tony and Tom to secrecy. They are not at all sure about this; it must be against the rules, and surely Helen should be consulted – but Pat is adamant that her clever daughter’s skills should have public recognition. Kathy is coming for supper, which sends Tony into a fit of grumps, and Tom thinks he might be too busy with the pigs to come.
  • Tony has noticed something odd in the farm accounts; £1200 was taken out and replaced a few days later. Who could have done that? When Tony tackles Tom about it, he is totally unrepentant; he just borrowed it to help with a temporary cash flow problem. Tony erupts in fury; it is all down to that Rob Titchener and his advice. Pat does her best to calm things down, but an angry Tom gives as good as he gets. Pat gently tells Tom to ask next time; there won’t be a next time, he says.
  • Out riding, Shula encounters Darrell, sporting a black eye. Someone at The Elms hit him, and he refuses to go back there. Shocked, Shula persuades him to come back to The Stables for shepherd’s pie and first aid. Darrell enjoys his first hot meal in ages, and after an initial refusal, accepts an old jacket of Alistair’s. Shula asks him to try The Elms again. She will speak to the staff about what happened. As Alistair comes in, Darrell rushes off.
  • The Golf Club saga continues on its dreary and unconvincing course. Martyn sneers and criticises; Kathy wetly agrees to everything, including cancelling her holiday to fit in with Martyn’s availability so they can interview for a new chef.
  • Pat offers a listening ear as Kathy tells her the latest. It seems that Martyn has sapped every ounce of Kathy’s self-confidence. Pat does her best to reassure her friend; Martyn Gibson is just a sad, pathetic work-place bully.
