She neglects to pick up on Lynda’s hints that the parish council needs a new chairman now Derek has let it be known he’s stepping down. Vicky suggests David. Not sure he has vision. Lilian? Good heavens, no, nothing would get done. Lynda, why don’t you do it! Me?
- A nervous Susan goes to Borchester in plenty of time for her interview, too much time, so visits Jaxx for a coffee where an awkward meeting with Brenda ensues. Susan’s prickly about not having an education, Brenda about not having experience. But Brenda does wish Susan good luck.
- Brenda’s relating the meeting with Susan to Mike ahead of their meeting. She keeps finding out Vicky’s been telling Susan stuff about her. Ed and Vicky arrive. Mike and Ed are impressed with Brenda’s leaflet design, although Vicky thinks Buttercup could be bigger, and Ed agrees to help with the door-to-door visits to sign up customers. Vicky’s more concerned about plying everyone with her ready-made sandwiches and, despite Brenda’s warnings, gets pickle on Brenda’s laptop’s keyboard and then still doesn’t listen but insists on wiping it off with a cloth, regardless of what effect pressing the keys may have.
- Susan arrives to return Vicky’s borrowed broach. She didn’t get the job, they didn’t say why not. Vicky tells Brenda there was no need to be upset she didn’t get an interview. Brenda says she was not upset. Susan steps in; she’ll just have to keep her eyes peeled for something else.
