Susan falls for Charlie’s flattery. Kenton is as resolute as ever in his attitude to brother David.

Radio Times: David is just about managing, and Susan is in demand.

  • Over breakfast, David reports to Pip that her mum had set off at 6am. Without her it will be a busy day on the farm but David will manage somehow. Maybe Tom would lend a hand.
  • Oozing charm from every pore, Charlie persuades Susan to take part in Open Farm Sunday at Berrow Farm; he wants her as an illustration of the principle of producer/retailer symbiosis. (Got that, Susan?) What can she say? It all sounds wonderful. Her next customer is Jolene, who is quickly told about Charlie’s visit. Jolene will be at Berrow Farm too, running the beer tent and the bar for the evening party.
  • David has had a call from Rex, fishing for information about the farm they are hoping to rent. He has offered to help on Open Farm Sunday – Toby too. The news from the north is good: granny Heather is expected to go home tomorrow; it was a mini stroke, a TIA. Pip’s exam went ok, she thinks; now she has her interview to prepare for, but this evening she is just going to relax by joining Fallon’s team in the quiz – quietly hoping that Toby will be there.
  • Jolene is the quizmaster but Kenton is not impressed with the quality of the picture clues. A spat ensues about whether to buy a new printer; Kenton is keen to spend more of the money they haven’t got – he’s good at that – Jolene is more cautious.
  • Later, Kenton and Jolene make peace. Jolene suggests that they might tell David about their participation at Berrow Farm, rather than let him hear about it from someone else. Where David’s sensibilities are concerned, Kenton couldn’t give a flying fig.
