Susan has plans for future greatness; Phoebe has made some inappropriate choices, in more ways than one.

Radio Times: Phoebe has an anxious wait and Clarrie gets to grips with a new recipe

Characters: , , , ,
  • Phoebe is recounting her tale of woe to Lily on the phone. She feels no better and is still vomiting. She’s convinced that her emergency contraception can’t have worked and has no idea what to do. When she returns to fruit picking, she realises that she’ll have to face Constantin. Lily tells her to stay put. She’s on the way, with a plan!
  • As Clarrie and Susan take an early break at Bridge Farm, Susan just can’t help trying to squeeze information out of Clarrie about her family’s inheritance from Caroline. Sadly for her, she gets no further. However, Roy turns up looking for Tony and he’s fair game, especially as he tells Susan that Lynda has been remembered by Caroline. Susan can cope no more and asks the direct question, “how much?” Clarrie is rightly embarrassed.
  • Lily turns up with a variety of pregnancy testing kits, much to Phoebe’s annoyance. It’s far too early to test yet, but Lily has other ideas. At Bridge Farm, Susan and Clarrie finish bottling the kefir. Susan is still grumbling about the stuff but begins to change her mind when Clarrie suggests that Tom will probably need their expertise to continue the manufacturing process. Could this mean additional cash?
  • Phoebe leaves the lavatory having done her test. Lily is being particularly annoying and asks if she will keep the baby if she is pregnant. She gets a resounding no in response. Because of what happened to her friend, Lily suggests leaving the test for six rather than three minutes. Better safe than sorry. Then…Roy comes in from work. In total panic, Lily offers to say that the test is hers to get Phoebe off the hook. Oh what a tangled web!
  • As the kefir is put into a warm place to, “brew” Susan suggests a further tasting and deems it to be “not as bad as it first seemed.” Clarrie sarcastically suggests that it could be a tag line for Bridge Farm’s marketing push. Seeing a financial future in it, Susan chides Clarrie. She has always been an ideas woman whereas Clarrie has always been a bit of a plodder. Anyway, she plans to do some research on the health benefits of kefir, just to keep up to date.
  • Roy, in a state of near apoplexy, demands to know why there is a pregnancy test underway in his bathroom. Phoebe is reduced to a state of mere acquiescence as Lily takes off on a gigantic flight of fancy. To cut a long story short, the girls end up by saying that the test belonged to Lexi, that she had just left as Roy came in and that it needed to be done because of a mad moment of passion with Constantin. Roy leaves, confused but somewhat relieved. Phoebe is furious, saying that Lexi was her friend and Lily has done nothing but make matters much worse.
