Characters: , , , , ,
  • At the shop, Lynda is assailed by Rob insisting that Berrow Farm was an accident waiting to happen. He saw it coming of course but no one would back him. Helen expresses concern for Charlie, Rob quietly gloats. Helen feels uncomfortable when Rob announces that they are off to court to arrange for him to have parental responsibility for Henry. Helen corrects him … step parental responsibility. Rob leaves to telephone the electrician and find out why he’s not on site.
  • Away from the shop, Rob leaves a thoroughly unpleasant phone message for the electrician, threatening dire consequences if he doesn’t phone back. He cites Helen’s “condition” for his concern. She overhears and tells him sharply not to use her as an excuse. She wonders just where they’ll find another tradesman if he walks off the job. Roy turns up on his way to the shop. Helen expresses her concern to Rob that almost everyone seems to know about her pregnancy.
  • Back in the shop, Susan is concerned that Lynda’s choice of play isn’t particularly festive. Lynda believes that Susan will take a wonderful part and along with Roy, urges her to audition. Realising the time, Roy and Lynda hurry back to Grey Gables, leaving Susan with much to think about.
  • At court, Helen and Rob are waiting to be seen. She recounts a conversation with Pip about the shop stocking Brookfield beef. Out of the blue, Rob accuses her of rambling and of behaving oddly. Of course, it’s probably to do with her hormones. As Helen ponders this possibility, they are called. Rob has to bring her back down to earth and take her through. What would she do without him?
  • At Grey Gables, Roy discovers that Lynda has been preparing a petition to close Berrow Farm, and printing play fliers, all in works time. Gratefully she takes a phone call. It’s Susan; she’s had second thoughts about taking part. Lynda has a very stilted conversation with her, while trying to hide her true identity from Roy. She manages to change Susan’s mind, with Roy being none the wiser.
  • Helen and Rob collect Henry from school. Despite Helen wanting to wait for the sealed certificate, Rob insists on telling him about their time at court and that he’s now Henry’s father. The child is overjoyed and asks if he can go hunting now. Rob promises to keep him safe; Helen has little option but to agree. They head for home, holding hands at Henry’s insistence.
