The final rehearsal, despite Lynda’s encouragement, lacked sparkle. Lilian is tempted to head for Dubai.

Radio Times: Matt is maudlin and Lynda handles a prima donna.

  • What’s the matter with Matt? Has he realised that Lilian spends her waking hours leaving messages for Paul, or receiving them, or hoping to. Matt is bored. Might they go for a walk perhaps or take a trip into Borchester? No – not even for a new coat. He just doesn’t do down-time!
  • Finally Lilian gets a real live call from Paul. When the house phone threatens to interrupt she delegates it to Matt to take the call but it was for her anyway: a call from Lynda to say she is late for the final run-through of the show this evening. When she finally turns up at the Village Hall it is to receive a broadside from Lynda, for which she is not in the mood and reacts explosively – then rings Paul to tell him all about it. He suggests a flight to Dubai but she would never ‘get away’ with that! (Sooner or later this tiresome ‘getting away with it’ isn’t going to be enough – for any of them.) Think about it – otherwise it will be ten days more before they can see each other.
  • Meanwhile back in the Hall, Lynda has some encouraging words for all – even for the witches. Presumably Lilian had apologised. Fallon and Kirsty are not sure that the rehearsal went so well; they are not excited about it but Kenton assures them that by tomorrow they will be.
  • Oh dear, oh dear, Matt is still moaning: nothing on TV; his suggestion that they might go away is dismissed as impossible and Lilian declares she has had enough of his whingeing. He goes to bed in a huff and Lilian stays downstairs to make a booking.
