The goslings are in situ, in greater numbers than originally planned and Jill worries about their impact on already mounting pressures at Brookfield, with no return date in sight for Ruth. Kate seeks wise counsel on approaching Brian.

Radio Times: Kate prepares an idea, and it seems Fairbrother Geese is finally ready for business.

• Toby’s travelled to Norfolk to collect the goslings and Rex is wondering where he’s got to. While they wait, Rex asks Pip more about the village fete. Whilst it will be a good idea that he and Toby have a stall to promote their new business, Rex is less than keen on any notion of dressing up in accordance with this year’s theme: Ambridge through the ages.
• Pip’s delighted to see Toby and his arrival brings more than the agreed number of goslings. In fact, he’s purchased over double the agreed number due to having secured a good deal. Whilst trying not to be drawn in to their opposing views, Pip does agree with Toby that economies of scale will stand them in good stead, but Rex is more concerned about how they will sell them all. Toby has a meeting with a web designer to discuss marketing the business, while Rex and Pip head off for a celebratory drink.
• David’s failed to reach Ruth by phone due to poor signal on Lakey Hill but Jill has spoken to her instead and has updates on Heather. Care at home will be cost prohibitive – in excess of £2000 per week – despite the council doing all they can to help. Finding the right information is half the battle for Ruth and it’s the unknown length of time she’ll be away from the farm that is a strain on them all. David’s thoughts turn to temporary cover when Pip leaves to start her new job. He’ll broach it with Ruth.
• Adam is another person enjoying Brian’s response to all the compliments about his herbal lay. Keen to galvanise support for her own business start-up, Kate picks Adam’s brains over the best way to approach Brian with a new idea. It’s clearly worked for him with Brian’s agreement over the herbal lay. A mixture of being in the right frame of mind, preparation of key facts backed up by evidence and figures, sticking to one’s guns without becoming aggressive, and having Jennifer there as a soothing presence, is his best advice.
• Rex pops over to thank David in person for the part he’s played in helping the Fairbrothers get started in farming. He’d love to show David around the new set up, but, pressed for time David postpones until a later date, just as Jill calls David for his meal. She passes comment that Pip is being exploited in offering her assistance and hopes the new venture won’t erode David’s time too. They all already have more than enough on their plates with their own farm. And hasn’t anyone discussed the rearing of geese on their land with Ruth yet?
