The argument against Route B is presented in a favourable light on both local radio and in the newspaper. Bert and Carol nurture one another’s horticultural ambitions.

  • Carol and Bert reflect on her garden and whether or not there will be a flower and produce show this year. Carol deliberates over which vegetables to enter and calls on Bert’s judgement. He reckons she’ll stand a good chance with marrows as fewer will be entered this year due to the misfortune of the flood.
  • Fallon’s hamper is going down well with Roy and Jim at The Bull. It’s move day for Christine, so Jim is keeping a low profile. Apparently Rob has volunteered to lift heavy furniture. The local press carries front page news that the flood report could damage the road plans, which is cause for jubilation. However, Kenton pours cold water on their mood when he reels off the other stories appearing in the same edition, which contain quotes from Elizabeth and David.
  • It’s David’s moment in the spotlight on Radio Borsetshire. Carol and Jim and review the publicity and agree their cause has been presented in a good light with incontrovertible science and facts against building a new road.
  • Roy approaches Carol and Jim during their tea at Grey Gables and shares with them the poor reviews that the business has received since Joe Grundy took up permanent residence following the flood. If they could write a positive review to counter some of the negativity, then Roy would be most grateful.
  • Bert chats to David about the destructive nature of the River Am, despite its current tranquility. While deliberating over where to scatter Freda’s ashes, he contemplates returning to tend his own garden.
