The gossip about Jess hots up. Pat and Tony have a welcome guest.

Radio Times: Susan spreads gossip, and there is an unexpected visitor at Bridge Farm.

  • Because of an extra large order, Susan has some extra work at Bridge Farm. She is delighted, not just because it means extra money, but because she has a chance to tell Clarrie her latest piece of juicy gossip. Unfortunately Susan’s very detailed account is interrupted by Pat, so it has to wait.
  • Helen comes to Bridge Farm to make cheese, and tells Tony about the visit from Jess. She loses no time in repeating Rob’s version of The Trouble with Jess, but Tony speculates that she could be using her pregnancy as a bargaining tool for the divorce, or to make Rob jealous.
  • When Pat leaves the dairy, Susan resumes her account of Jess’s appearance at the shop. Clarrie is intrigued, and together, she and Susan try to work out the chronology of the pregnancy. Susan comments that Rob and Brian are two randy peas in a pod, and as they laugh over this, Helen comes in and asks what they are laughing about.
  • Tony tells Pat about Helen’s news, and Pat wonders if the pregnancy is really nothing to do with Rob. Before she has a chance to talk to Helen a visitor arrives; it’s Rich, who is now known as Johnny, and he asks if he can stay overnight and call them Gran and Grandad. He has been staying in Birmingham with a friend, and after helping Tony with a cow’s hoof and enjoying a picnic, Johnny tells them he has failed all his GCSEs except DT and fallen out with Sharon because he refuses to go to college to re-sit his exams. He persuades Pat to speak to Sharon, which she does, and Rich-alias-Johnny stays in John’s old room. He is grateful and his grandparents are delighted.
