The meeting passes without incident – for now. Others are starting to notice Jill is not herself. Pip and Adam will work together.
Radio Times: A public meeting is held, and Eddie talks serious business.
Characters: Adam, Brian, Eddie, Jim, Lynda, Shula- Shula is planning Dan’s 21st Birthday celebrations before going to the public meeting, which Alistair is not looking forward to. Joe’s latest rumour is that bird flu has mutated and got into the food chain at Berrow Farm. Shula and Jim chuckle over Joe’s fertile imagination.
- Pip has accepted Adam’s proposal about the share farming and David and Ruth will help her raise the capital to purchase the cattle. Brian endorses Adam’s business decision and is relieved that he has not entered into partnership with the Fairbrothers. Adam realises they were never serious contenders and detected disharmony between the brothers yesterday. Phoebe’s busy with her tests at school so won’t be attending the meeting but Jennifer will turn out in support, although she’s terrified of the consequences of Lynda finding out the cause of the disease at Berrow Farm.
- Over at The Bull, Eddie shares his concerns with Shula and Jim about Jill not being herself. Shula agrees that Jill seems unsettled at Lower Loxley. Eddie doesn’t let the opportunity to market his turkeys go to waste, while Lynda arrives to marshal everyone to St. Stephen’s hall for the meeting.
- Lynda challenges Brian’s chairing of the meeting, which he explains is due to Home Farm’s links. Adam does a good job of explaining the pathology of the disease and how it has developed, including the cause, which he generalises to the carcass of an animal that has not yet been identified. He also reassures everyone that botulism in the cows poses no risk to human health. Lynda appears satisfied with this. Later at The Bull, Eddie tells Jim that during his darts night at The Fox, a Berrow Farm worker told Eddie that the remains of a dog were found. He and Jim put two and two together, given the chronology of Scruff’s disappearance and agree between them that Lynda must never find out.
