The news for Bridge Farm is cheering, but for Alice and Chris the news is depressing.

Radio Times: There is an anxious wait at Bridge Farm. Meanwhile, Alice is job-hunting.

  • As Pat waits for the Environmental health inspection to be over, Tom again tries to pressure her, but luckily they are interrupted by Helen; Radio Borsetshire want to interview Pat. She realises she will have to do the interview, no matter how difficult it will be.
  • At Grey Gables, Lilian is pampering herself, when she meets Alice, who is looking for Caroline to ask if there are any summer jobs going. Alice tells Lilian about Chris’s interview with the bank manager, and how Ronnie’s former apprentice, Daz, is also keen to buy the business. To Lilian’s surprise, Alice has no intention of asking Brian to help.
  • Tom launches once more into his ‘sack Clarrie’ tirade, but both Pat and Tony say very firmly they will not do it. Tom even wants them to announce it on Radio Borsetshire. Helen backs Tom up, but their parents are adamant. There will be no public scapegoating.
  • A subdued Christopher comes home early, to learn that Grey Gables had no job for Alice. Even worse, Ronnie seemed unwilling to contemplate renting the premises to Chris, though said he would think about it. It seems that Daz has all the advantages. Alice suggests going to the pub to cheer themselves up.
  • At last Bridge Farm is given a clean bill of health, and production can re-start – but will the old customers return? Both Tom and Tony are conscious that they will need to find out what the demand is before making ice cream again. Fine, says Pat, I will start ringing round tomorrow.
  • Having had an invitation to Rhys’s party, Alice and Chris are rather happier. Alice tells Lilian about Ronnie’s apparent preference for Daz as a buyer. But when she tells Lilian his real name – Daryl Polhill, it seems to ring a bell.
