The trial begins and Kathy feels she has not done well.
Radio Times: Kathy tells her side of the story.
Characters: Defence Counsel, Kathy, Kenton, Pat, Prosecution Counsel- Kathy is giving evidence and Kenton is anxiously sitting outside, bemoaning the fact that he is kept outside while Taylor – that man – is in court listening to everything she says; leering at her. Of course the prosecution questioning is gentle and allows Kathy describe the nature of her acquaintance with Owen. Then she described the situation at the fateful rehearsal and the rape itself.
- Outside, Pat takes control as Kenton appears to be losing it. She takes him out for some fresh air and calms him down; Kathy will need him later.
- Kathy goes on to describe how, after the rape, Taylor had behaved as though nothing had happened. She had told no-one, except her ex-husband ten days later who promptly sent him packing. The questioning deliberately brings out Owen’s recent visit to Ambridge, breaking is bail conditions.
- The defence counsel is a different proposition; she tries to put forward an alternative explanation – that Kathy confided in Owen and consented to sex. The rape was just a cover for the benefit of her partner when he came back from New Zealand. She makes a great deal of why Kathy kept quiet for so long.
- Kathy thinks she has made a mess of it. She is convinced that the defence counsel’s twisting of events will be more convincing than the truth. She feels she has let Claire down, who she hopes will do better tomorrow.
