There is a pragmatic element to Emma’s hen night. Anticipation for the big day is tangible but not for Will and Nic.

Radio Times: Will makes a decision, and Emma has an unusual hen night.

  • Susan is putting the finishing touches to Emma’s dress which she is thrilled with. Susan has never seen a more beautiful bride, but Emma reminds her that she said the same words last time. Susan says she was wrong last time: she didn’t know how beautiful her daughter could look now she is truly happy.
  • Clarrie, Susan and the children are now off to choose flowers for the wedding. Fallon shows them the dress she’s found for Clarrie – Caroline’s gift to Clarrie. She’s chosen well and Clarrie will be pleased. Fallon’s worried that she’s not had opportunity to replace the stolen bunting before the wedding, but Emma’s not at all concerned. In fact, she comes up with an alternative plan for her hen night – a Sewing Bee.
  • There’s tension between Nic and Will as he’s no intention of going to Ed’s stag night. He’s agreed to be best man and will do what’s been asked of him on the day: no more, no less. His evening is spoken for anyway – writing his speech. His attitude irritates Nic: Ed is part of the family and always will be. If Will can’t embrace his role wholeheartedly, he may as well not do it at all.
  • Susan is in high spirits at the sewing circle. When the doorbell rings, she winds the girls up by saying it is a strippergram and not the curry delivery. For a few seconds they believe her and there is much hilarity when they realise her prank. Conversation turns to who will marry next, and opinion favours Helen, who acknowledges that she would be happy if it were the case… Rob makes her feel secure.
  • Susan and Emma reminisce over the evening. It was nice to see Susan let her hair down. Susan reminds Emma that she also was young once – as was revealed during the evening in how young she and Neil were when they had Emma. Yes, there have been tough times over the years but she is immensely proud of Emma and has no doubts about her marriage to Ed – they are a great family.
