There’s good news for Tony’s health and he and Pat are making retirement plans. The case of the blocked culvert could now be closed as Stefan has given notice to Berrow Farm.

Radio Times: Pat and Tony have an announcement to make, and Rob needs a word with Charlie.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Rob and Helen discuss Tony’s forthcoming medical appointment during which he’ll hopefully be signed off. Rob’s managed to wriggle out of Pat and Tony’s holiday photo slideshow so is home alone with Henry. Helen checks that he’ll manage to cook a baked potato to supplement the pre-prepared meal she’s left him. She reminds him to book the time off with Charlie for their forthcoming holiday in the Isle of Wight, which he later does.
  • Tom enquires after Charlie’s ankle following the weekend’s cricket. As Rob and Helen arrive, Tom teases Helen that she’s never shown interest in cricket prior to Rob joining the team. Charlie acknowledges Rob’s prowess, having made man of the match twice consecutively but Rob passes this off as ‘luck’. They discuss Johnny’s cricket potential.
  • Helen pushes Tom to share the drawings for the shop with Pat and Tony but Tom feels that while the offer they’ve received for Ambridge Organics remains up in the air; their parents have got enough on their plate.
  • Pat recreates red pepper relish from Croatia to keep the holiday memories alive. She and Tony share a laugh about the effect that Lynda’s praise of the herbal lay is having on Brian. Tom and Helen arrive and the family toast Brian’s recovery with some authentic Croatian wine. The consultant doesn’t want to see Tony for another six months.
  • Pat and Tony’s holiday has given them the opportunity to reflect on the future. Aside from the good news from the Health and Safety Executive, they’ve decided to retire. Tom and Helen are surprised but can also see it will make sense and they have a good team in Neil, Jazzer and Johnny. Tony makes apology for things said in the past, especially to Tom. Perhaps it’s appropriate to share the plans for the shop now, after all?
  • Rob is giving Henry some early cricket tuition when Charlie Thomas arrives. News has reached him that Stefan will not be returning to Berrow Farm and Charlie wonders why Rob has not mentioned it earlier? Rob maintains it had slipped his mind and when Charlie presses the matter, Rob speculates that he’s resigned due to family matters. Charlie is disappointed as Stefan was a good worker and wonders how far Rob’s efforts went to persuade him to stay? Keen to close the matter of the blocked culvert, Rob presumes that investigations have ceased, as no further evidence can be obtained. A reluctant Charlie agrees.
