  • At Brookfield Jill prepares breakfast for David after a difficult night’s calving. She reassures him that she can well afford her contribution to Kenton’s fund. Pip arrives as Jill leaves to prepare for church. She speaks frankly with her father about Ruth’s feelings regarding the current situation with Heather. All she really wants to get back to being a farmer again. David agrees wistfully.
  • Jill meets Bert as she walks to church, talk turns to Carol’s entries for the Flower and Produce Show. Bert lets it drop that he feels guilty staying at Brookfield while Jill moves out. She points out that it’s as it should be; she is spoilt for choice when it comes to places to stay.
  • David drops by to see Pip at work on the cultivator. He offers to do the afternoon milking. Pip agrees; it will give her time to move some of her stuff to Rickyard Cottage. She suggests that her old room at Brookfield should be redecorated before Heather’s arrival. Perhaps Bert could help?
  • Later, at Brookfield, Jill gives some clothes to Elizabeth to take back to Lower Loxley. David suggests to Elizabeth that they should send half of Kenton’s loan via the bank on Monday, in order that work on The Bull can get underway immediately. She agrees. Meanwhile at The Bull, Jolene tells Bert of Fallon’s good fortune regarding renting Woodbine Cottage. He’s less sanguine about the proposed fate of the village hall. It’s a historic landmark and should be refurbished, not knocked down.
  • At Lower Loxley, Elizabeth tells her mother how much the children are looking forward to her moving in. Elizabeth acknowledges that leaving Brookfield will be a wrench; Jill says that leaving Ambridge could be a greater loss.
  • Bert is finishing lunch at The Bull as David calls in. He puts his proposal to Bert regarding decorating. He agrees, but won’t hear of any payment. It will go some way to thanking David for his hospitality. As Bert leaves, David mentions to Jolene the arrangements for the loan. She’s over the moon; Kenton seems brighter and is making plans again. She is sure that things are on the “up”.
