Toby influences Pip to approach Jill for a loan. Helen urges Tom to contact Kirsty directly.
Radio Times: Pip massages the truth, and Shula gets a warning.
Characters: Helen, Jack, Jill, Philip, Pip, Shula, Toby, Tom- As Pip and Toby negotiate domestic life, they bemoan their diminishing finances and Toby’s slow start to the gin business. There’s no respite for Pip with the IBR situation and with her parents’ refusing a loan for cattle purchase, she dreams of a change in fortune. Much as he’d like to help, Toby is not in a position to reimburse her. He does, however, point her in the direction of her Gran.
- Tom and Helen catch up after his Brazil trip. She understands the rationale for his change of business direction while he is keen for news of how Kirsty has been in his absence. Helen will not discuss Kirsty behind her back and suggests that instead of Tom fishing for information, he makes contact with Kirsty.
- Shula has a builder make temporary repairs at the kennels, who advises that she gets several quotes as the work will not be cheap. Unfortunately the owner has allowed the buildings to fall into disrepair. During his work, Philip identifies little owls in residence and advises Shula how to encourage their nesting, should she wish them to remain on the property.
- Toby urges Pip to approach her Gran about a loan. After complimenting Jill on her flowers, the bees, her social life; she lays out her business strategy, costs, timescales, all of which Jill agrees to give due consideration, with one proviso: she’s keen to know about the return on last year’s investment and will take a few days to mull over the decision.
