Tom’s mock interview stands him in good stead for the Nuffield scholarship and Kate and Roy share a convivial evening.
Radio Times: In The Bull, the interview panel is waiting, and Kate and Roy have a heart to heart.
Characters: Brian, David, Jazzer, Jim, Kate, Roy, Tom- Jazzer has invited Jim to The Bull under false pretences. Johnny has invited both Jazzer and Jim onto the panel for Tom’s mock interview, but Jim feels under-qualified. It’s his experience that counts, according to Jazzer and he has plenty of that. David and Brian arrive and Jazzer rigs up a spotlight to ensure Tom is firmly under it. The interview begins, with Tom asked to defend his record on starting but not completing projects. With the panellists all chipping in with comment and opinion, Tom receives little air time at all. Brian and David grill Tom on his strong business beliefs and standing up for his principles.
- Kate is short of company and calls on Roy. She doesn’t want to interrupt his evening, but Roy is also at a loose end. They are both missing Phoebe and acknowledge that she is growing up and time moves on. Over a glass of wine, they evaluate the purpose and meaning in their lives. With Phoebe’s success and Kate’s new business venture Roy feels as though he is the only one not moving on with his life. He has recently learned that Hayley has a new love interest which has revived his feelings for Elizabeth. They end the evening on friendly terms, and Kate encourages Roy to get back into the dating game. He is not so sure, but she jokes that she will keep nagging him.
- The interview is complete and over a fresh round of drinks, the chaps discuss Rob Titchener’s change in social standing. Each and every one of them held him in high regard for different reasons, but now they all see him for what he is and support the decision of the cricket team to ostracise him.
