  • Missing Henry, Pat offered to look after him but the offer was declined; she feels she is still being punished for Wednesday. Tony assures her that they will need a baby-sitter soon enough. Hearing about the DJ, Tony concludes that he is not good enough even for Jack’s cast-offs.
  • Tony and Tom have met in The Bull, so Tony takes the opportunity to mention the Catheridge Hall visit: they had heard of it from Helen. Tom explains his concerns about the space available for the growing guest list but the marquee is still the most likely solution. There’s more. Kirsty wants to live away from the farm. That makes no sense to Tony. It does to Tom: that’s what Kirsty wants and her wish is his command.
  • As Tom leaves, Jill arrives; she fancies a drink. Kenton deduces that she is getting anxious again about being alone. After a few minutes with Tony, she decides it had better be a big drink. Nevertheless she chats to Tony who later walks her home.
  • Rob’s initial reaction to the DJ is that he wouldn’t be seen dead in lapels like that. But it’s a nice gesture from Peggy and it is indeed a cut above Rob’s present DJ. Helen ventures to suggest a new bed; she didn’t sleep well because it’s a bit ‘saggy’. She elicits the information that it is quite old but Rob misses the point about replacing it; it’s a decent bed so there’s no need to change it. Clearly her wish is not his command!
  • Back home Tony contemplates the silence. What a mess he has made of the relationships with his children. So here they are: no kids, no grandchild, no cows, just a big empty silence.
