Tony feels family pressure. Nic feels family tensions.
Radio Times: Tony is feeling harassed, and Clarrie and Nic give themselves a treat.
Characters: Clarrie, Nic, Pat, Tom, Tony- Clarrie and Nic go to the shops to choose an outfit for Nic to wear to the Young Farmers Ball. They enjoy laughing about Sabrina Thwaite, and Clarrie persuades Nic to buy a sequinned number. Nic is sad that Clarrie isn’t treating herself, so when Clarrie heads for the loo, Nic buys the pashmina Clarrie had admired.
- Over treating a lame cow, Tom bends his father’s ear about pre-coolers, refrigeration units and heat recovery systems, all of which, Tom is convinced, will save a fortune in electricity. Tony wearily points out that they all have to be paid for, but Tom is on a roll and won’t listen. When Pat arrives, she takes Tom’s side, leaving Tony feeling that the world is against him. His mood sinks even lower when he learns that Kathy is coming to supper yet again.
- Clarrie tackles the subject of the bad blood between William and Ed. Nic tries to sound upbeat about it, but somehow she seems to be trying to convince herself. She assures Clarrie she will sort it out. Meanwhile Mia helps Clarrie feed the turkeys, and a happier Clarrie comments that babies are the best news anyone can have.
- Pat nags Tony about his boots, his jeans and his shirt, which does little to improve his mood. But underneath it all, Pat is desperately worried about Helen, who was at Grey Gables by 6.30 this morning, waiting for the pool to open. Tony blithely says the exercise will make her eat. Poor Pat knows that is far from the case.
