Vicky’s incessant puerile chatter spoils Ed’s trip to look at Guernseys.
Radio Times: Three’s a crowd for Ed and Mike.
Characters: David, Ed, Elizabeth, Mike, Nigel, Vicky- Ed’s keen to visit the Guernsey breeders him and Mike have lined up but is surprised to find Vicky’s coming along for a “nice day out”. At the first contender, Ed’s trying to discuss statistics with Mike but they didn’t catch all of them due to Vicky’s joyful warbling whilst bottle-feeding a calf. At least the calf kept quiet. Instead of a quick sandwich from a garage on the way to the next breeder, Vicky insists on driving back in the wrong direction for a pub they passed. Despite Ed’s pleas to eat quickly, Vicky dallies for desert.
- David’s helping Nigel’s grape pickers and imparts he needs to spread Cheshire rock salt on the paddocks to improve the sodium to potassium ratio for the cows.
- Vicky’s now giving Ed’s ears a bashing about the village shop, news of possible closure has got out. He’s trying to recall what yields the second breeder gave but they weren’t there long, after arriving late, and Mike doesn’t know either. Ed bails out before reaching home and meets David who thinks he looks shell shocked. Ed explains.
- Mike and an awestruck, but not struck dumb, Vicky call on Nigel. They’re discussing Mike’s tree walk when Lizzie arrives with news of Lynda and Robert’s trip to Haslemere to visit Oscar Henry, 7lbs 6oz. Vicky’s distraught. What if they can’t make it back for her dinner party? The smoked salmon’s bought and everything’s planned!
