Vicky won’t take no for an answer.
Radio Times: Vicky plays midwife at Grange Farm.
Characters: Ed, Jim, Mike, Robert, Vicky- As Ed deals with a difficult calving, he’s less than pleased to see Vicky, who offers fatuous advice, interferes with Ed’s judgement and insists on taking photos. It’s another bull calf, but Ed gets nowhere as he tries to explain yet again that it can’t stay at Grange Farm.
- Jim is full of praise for Robert’s skills as a carpenter. He’s moving in on Thursday, and looking forward to arranging his books on the new shelves. They are interrupted by Kenton, who brushes aside Jim’s suggestion that Robert might redecorate Jaxx for them. When they head to the Bull, he will let Robert have only a half, while he and Jim down pints; Robert has to get on with the clap-o-meter.
- Ed lays it on the line to Mike: he’s got to make it clear to Vicky that she isn’t to interfere with the running of the farm. Feebly, Mike says he can’t sway her once she’s got an idea in her head; maybe they should have clarified things better before accepting her offer. Ed’s not convinced. Mike must decide which partner he wants to please.
- Vicky comes storming into the Bull to show Jolene her photos of the new calf, but she’s out of luck. Jolene isn’t there. Kenton asks innocently why she’s making such a fuss over bull calves. Vicky has the answer – they must be raised humanely for veal. Kenton suggests that she talks to Pat.
- Vicky takes Kenton at his word, and announces to Mike and Ed that they will rear veal calves. Ed tries to explain that it just isn’t feasible; they haven’t time. Vicky plays her trump card. She’ll look after them now that she has so much free time.
