With Pip’s departure looming, Toby steps up his efforts. Susan is rude to Peggy.

Radio Times: Peggy gets a shock, and Toby receives some help.

• For a meeting with a restaurant chain, to market his geese, Toby comes besuited; Pip is impressed, though she seems otherwise sensibly immune to his charms.
• Visiting the temporary village shop, Peggy finds herself cut dead by Susan. She makes a point of explaining to Susan her lack of influence over Hazel but Susan explodes in a barrage of accusations much along the lines of the one Pat received.
• The goose meeting seemed to go well, especially when the executive chef started talking about roasting potatoes in goose fat. There is no commitment yet but they didn’t say no. Pip reveals that Josh is pestering her to promote the idea of a longer tenancy to her parents but they have enough on their plates at present. Meanwhile Toby persuades her to go for a drink with him this evening; he just never gives up.
• Lynda calls on Peggy to apologise for the incident earlier; she was appalled by Susan’s tirade. Peggy realises that Susan is upset but is disappointed that, after years of supporting the village shop, Susan would think she would be party to undermining it.
• Toby probably had something more exotic in mind than The Bull but Pip is milking in the morning, so needs an early night. Toby is disappointed to have Charlie join them and there follows a debate about the future direction of farming; this might genuinely reflect Toby’s views or it might be an excuse to suggest that she should forget going to Websters and come to work instead with him – and Rex, Pip adds. He also tries to raise the spectre of entrepreneur Josh taking over Brookfield while she is away.
