  • It’s a bad day for pigeons as David, Tony, Joe and (an unheard) George fire away over Brookfield – it might be a bad day for Clarrie as Joe sets about collecting them for food!
  • Joe absent-mindedly mentions the cheque for the milk quota to Tony, who spreads it around the village. Phil admits that the system is strange, especially as it was worth more than 50% more than the milk would have yielded.
  • Eddie was being consoled by Mike – a farmer who had lost is farm – although Mike was less than pleased when he heard about the cheque. Protests about the cost of milk parlours and the impending law suit don’t assuage people.
  • Clarrie refuses to pluck the pigeons, and points out that “Joe’s Susan” didn’t hold down two jobs in addition to running the farmhouse! Later Joe relents as he plans to sell the pigeons to Kathy and the Hassett Room!
  • Phil and David agree that Grange Farm’s land would not present much of an extra burden, although they’d rather it didn’t happen. They’re concerned about Shula’s position with Simon.
