Jennifer meets with opposition to her care plans. Lynda meets with opposition to her fete plans.

Characters: Jazzer, Jennifer, Jill, Jim, Lynda, Peggy- Jennifer calls to tell Peggy that she has found an agency which will provide help to replace Elona. She meets with some opposition as Peggy systematically demolishes all Jennifer’s arguments. Peggy will manage by herself. Meanwhile she would like a lift to the shop. As mother and daughter arrive at the shop, Jennifer realises that Jim is on duty, and with the latest Borchester Life interview still ranking, she decides not to shop there, but to go to Underwoods instead. Somewhat puzzled, Peggy goes in alone
- At the shop Jill arrives to relieve Jim. Lynda sees the Echo, carrying an advertisement for the dispersal sale at Bridge Farm, and immediately decides that Pat and Tony must be getting out of farming altogether. Jill tries to explain, but as usual, Lynda is convinced that she must be right.
- Peggy thinks the Bridge Farm plans are an excellent idea, and tells Jill as much. Unfortunately Jennifer has not, apparently, heard about the sale.
- The fete committee convenes, and soon Lynda and Jazzer have a marked difference of opinion over the scottishness or otherwise of the event. Jazzer announces that he will be playing his bagpipes on the green, to Lynda’s horror. When she protests, Jazzer accuses her of racism.
