Leonie rules where the new baby is concerned.

Radio Times: There are two new doting grandmothers in Ambridge, and David and Jill find something unexpected.

Characters: David, James, Jill, Leonie, Lilian, Lynda, Vicky

• “How are you managing?” It’s a reasonable question for Vicky to ask the mother of a 12 day old baby. Leonie is doing very well; let’s explore why. Whenever she, or baby Mowgli, needs something she just clicks her fingers and someone – James, Lilian (a frequent visitor) or Lynda but usually James – leaps into action. She is getting eight hours sleep a night because James does the night feeds using expressed milk. As for James going out to wet the baby’s head, no chance.
• The news from the north is that Ruth’s mum is recovering from an operation on her hip. At home David is not being allowed to waste away with Jill on hand. She decides to go out on the farm with him.
• The ‘issue’ of names comes up again. As for a christening, ‘they’ have decided to hold a naming ceremony – at Ambridge Hall if Lynda is willing; James agrees – he wouldn’t dare do otherwise. It seems that Leonie is having second thoughts about the name Mowgli, having researched the numerology (don’t ask!) but before the grannies can rejoice Leonie announces her new favourite – Montezuma.
• Meanwhile, as David and Jill are delivering ewes and lambs to Lakey Hill, they suffer a problem with the trailer; the track just gave way beneath it. No harm done but David will need to bring the tractor later to recover the trailer. Curiously, there is running water about; that’s not normal for this time of year.
• Lynda expresses her concerns over the baby’s name and Vicky reassures her that Leonie has the baby’s best interests at heart; just enjoy being a grand-parent and let the parents worry about the nuts and bolts.
