Jill worries about the sale of Brookfield but she learns of more upsetting family news.

Radio Times: Joe gives Carol a tour of the cider shed, and learns some news.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • David and Ruth are discussing the sale brochure for the farm when Jill comes in. David and Ruth invite Jill to come along and view the farm on offer in Northumberland. Jill needs to think about it.
  • Carol is amazed at the cleanliness of the cider shed. She accidentally sits on pan pipes which Joe announces are for the history of the turkey. What? They are for the Mexican episode, Joe asserts confidently.
  • Jennifer asks Peggy’s advice about one of John’s books. Peggy is impatient with John’s legacy to Jennifer and asks about Phoebe. Jill turns up and Jennifer takes her leave. Jill apologizes for showing up unannounced. She clearly wishes to talk to Peggy about the farm sale.
  • Carol announces that the cider is excellent and she suggests marketing it. Joe complains about ‘health and safety – although there is nothing wrong with the cider.’ Carol reminisces about all the men in the past who would have enjoyed the cider. Carol mentions that Ruth and David are placing Brookfield on the market and Joe is incredulous.
  • Jill frets and Peggy offers her a room but Jill notes that Shula and Elizabeth have invited her to live with them and Carol has offered to move out. She is not short of choices. Carol arrives and Jill muses that everyone is acting strange around her. Peggy says it is not fair to Jill not to tell.
  • Joe hurries to Brookfield to ask about David and Ruth selling up. Why? It’s the new road but hopefully it won’t happen. They are touched by Joe’s distress when an obviously disturbed Jill arrives. Joe continues his heartfelt speech declaring his gratitude to the Archers. Jill leaves the room in tears but it likely isn’t due to the farm sale or Joe’s speech.
