Rex’s day out with Pip doesn’t go to plan.
Radio Times: Lilian and Kate get down to business, and Rex spends time with Pip.
Characters: Alice, Jennifer, Kate, Lilian, Pip, Rex- To assuage her fears about the bus being late, Jennifer had taken Phoebe in to college; she was worried about her exam. Lilian is given strict instructions to look after Phoebe and stop Kate from interrupting her. These exams are important to Phoebe. Alice drops in to say goodbye; she has a few days off and is going out with Chris today. Kate also calls in and gets the ‘peace and quiet’ message at first hand.
- Rex is making slow progress with Pip. He enquires about the cattle and tells her about the posh wedding he is going to. He is happy to leave Toby in charge, as he seems to have turned over a new leaf. Pip announces that she tried to persuade her dad to come today but he was too busy. Phew! That wasn’t in Rex’s plan!
- Later, over coffee and cake, they talk cows, and Rex suggests stopping for a meal on the way home. Then Pip spots Alice; she admits to being more interested in the technology, e.g. GPS, than the cows. Alice will have a long wait for Chris to finish his job, so Pip offers her a lift home. That’s not in Rex’s plan either but when he mentions that they are stopping for a meal, Pip reduces it to a sandwich. Alice commiserates over Matthew and Pip declares that she doesn’t want any kind of romantic involvement just now. Poor Rex – firmly stuck in the friend zone.
- The sun being over the yard-arm, Lilian declares it is time for her and Kate to hit the bottle – one of Brian’s, of course. They make too much noise for Phoebe; they should have gone to the pub. Kate observes that Lilian is rather boisterous; has she been up to something? She has!
