There’s no sight of the Brookfield family, will they attend Elizabeth’s party; Justin and Lilian seem to be set fair for a life of bliss, could anything knock them off course?

Radio Times: Everyone is celebrating at The Bull, and Rex fails to impress.

  • The Bull has become the centre of the village’s universe. Lilian and Justin arrive and he orders champagne from Kenton for their guests welcome and for the later toast. Nothing is too much for Lilian; he knows just how pivotal she and her family are to village life. They meet Anisha who has come to apologise to Peggy as planned. She’s very nervous though and Justin offers to take her over to the matriarch and act as moral support.
  • As Lilian orders a gin and tonic while waiting for the Brookfield contingent to arrive, Matt turns up. He says he’s looking forward to a glass of bubbly at Justin’s expense and hopes that the £50,000 he remitted to her will come in handy. She just hopes to see the rest of the amount due sooner rather than later. She calls Anisha over. Apparently, the apology went fairly well. Matt just can’t remain silent and introduces himself to Anisha.
  • Rex asks Kenton if he’s seen Pip tonight as he’s concerned about her. Kenton hasn’t seen any of the Brookfield family and wonders if the IBF problem is the only thing that’s concerning them. Even Toby hasn’t dropped any clues about what’s going on. Elsewhere, Anisha is being treated to a potted version of why Matt has returned to Britain. He explains that he’s working for clients in Costa Rica searching out bloodstock opportunities. She offers to perform pre-purchase examinations if it would help. Matt accepts the offer with alacrity however his offer to Anisha of dinner tonight or next week is turned down flat. Suddenly, Rex appears. Anisha is needed urgently outside.
  • Anisha is annoyed by Rex’s deception. There was no emergency, just Rex trying to get her away from an older man that he thought may have been bothering her. He was horrified to hear that it’s not unheard of for new clients chance their arm and try to chat her up. She explains that if she chooses to take his business she won’t need Rex as a bodyguard. She walks off as Kenton turns up on a glass hunt. He explains that he’s just made a fool of himself; Kenton admits to always doing so. He mentions that he may not go to Elizabeth’s 50th party due to an argument over Freddie. Rex can’t believe his ears; he and Toby have had many spats but if his brother failed to turn up for his 50th, there would be big trouble. Kenton must go!
  • It’s time for Justin’s speech. He explains how his first offer was rebuffed by Lilian because she wanted to be the one to propose. She always has been an independent, original and unique woman and it was the happiest day of his life when she proposed to him last Thursday. They all raise their glasses and toast Lilian. She whispers her thanks to him, saying that she really doesn’t deserve him. He reciprocates but it interrupted by a text from the current Mrs Elliott. Apparently, Mandy Beesborough tipped her off about the occasion. However, as far as he’s concerned, there’s nothing…nothing that she can do to spoil his new found happiness with Lilian.
