Hey, big spender.

Radio Times: Hey, big spender.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Kate is introducing Baby to the ducks and receives some encouragement from Hayley to get on with choosing a name; at present she seems destined to be named after a Norse goddess. Clearly Kate is still convinced that the blood tests will prove that Roy is not the father.
  • Taking a welcome break from the cabbages, Pat and Tony are treated to a report from Tommy on his visit to the Environmental Health people. He is full of enthusiasm which Pat fears might not be enough and it could all end in tears.
  • Brian calls on Kate at his grand-daughter’s bathtime. She seems to bring out his better side and he gently tries to persuade Kate to pay another visit to the solicitor; although she doesn’t think it will be needed, Brian insists that they really should prepare for the worst case.
  • Back at Bridge Farm, Tommy is keen to get on with the pig conference. For the proposed new venture they will simply need two containers, one refrigerated and one to use as a cutting room. It would only cost five thousand pounds, maybe six and the outlay would be recovered within a year. The impetuous youth cannot understand his parents’ hesitation but accepts Hayley’s invitation to a drink at the Cat while Pat and Tony chew it over. They are clearly not convinced; it is risky as it would change the whole nature of their operation. The dairy needs expanding too. They will not make a hasty decision; Tommy will have to wait.
  • Roy is in the Cat when Hayley and Tommy arrive. He recounts seeing Baby outside the court, for the first and last time according to Kate, but beats a hasty retreat when Brian and Kate arrive. The place is not Brian’s idea of a relaxing pub but if he is bribing his daughter with a drink then it has to be on her terms. A quiet word from Hayley, if it is possible to have a quiet word in the Cat, convinces Kate that she should go ahead and see the solicitor as well as preparing a statement for the court.
